Plains Memorial Hospital (PMH) offers patients extended care for a smoother transition through their Swing Bed program. Swing Bed can serve each patient differently, especially for extended care following an extensive surgery, neurological disorders such as stroke, generalized weakness due to certain chronic condition, and when someone no longer needs acute care but they are not quite ready to go home.   The Recovery Near Home program (Swing Bed) at Plains Memorial Hospital allows them to receive the extended care they need without the need to change facilities. On April 27, 2019, the Plains Medical Foundation hosted their fourth Hats and Heels Gala at Sunrise Farms in Nazareth, Texas. The 2019 Gala was also a record setting year in sponsorship donations and earnings for the Castro County Hospital District. Castro County Healthcare introduces Cologuard DNA stool testing through the Medical Center of Dimmitt. This DNA stool testing is intended to screen adults of either sex, 50 years or older, who are at average risk for colon cancer. Cologuard is also covered by Medicare. Cologuard was approved by the FDA in August of 2014. It is not for everyone and is not considered a replacement for diagnostic colonoscopy or surveillance colonoscopy in high – risked individuals. Don’t wait till fraud happens! The fight can begin now to protect yourself against fraudulent Medicare Card activities. Castro County Healthcare District wants to help you prepare and know what to look for. Medicare has begun sending out new Medicare cards. This means there could be a whole set of new scams. Be aware that Medicare or Social Security will not call, text, or email to tell you they are issuing these new cards, reprocessing cards, or assigning new numbers. Country View Living is set to finish construction by December 27, 2018. With this date quickly approaching, Castro County Healthcare District (CCHD) has hired Laura Kimball as the Administrator at Country View Living. Kimball’s dreams and goals of becoming an Administrator for a long-term and assisted living facility led her back home. DIMMITT – Castro County Healthcare invites the community to help support a family, friend, and team member of CCHD next Thursday, May 10thfrom 11 AM to 1:30 PM. There will be a ‘fiesta’ fundraiser to help support Betty Oltivero during her kidney transplant journey. Castro County Healthcare hung blue ribbons on Wednesday, April 18 in support of Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month.
